This is a ton of fun! It's time consuming, but, combining the work with good friends makes the night a memorable one. I had three friends over to help me, and it was a blast!

Cake pops are relatively simple. I baked a box white cake, and crumbled it when it cooled. Teaching was rough at the beginning; stressful, time consuming, and heart-hardening. Palmyra was the next stop on our list. A 4-hour bus ride from Damascus, we arrived in early afternoon. We met some Australians on the trip, the only other western travelers on a rather intimidating busload of surly Syrian men, and followed them to the hotel they had selected from their guide book. Here, we learned that the owner, Muhammed, was a Bedouin. Our first morning in Damascus, we rested until noon. We were exhausted from the previous days of constant motion, and it was nice to lie still for a time. 
Once we made it out of the room, our first order of business was to get to Old Damascus. What a cool place! We entered through the Bazaar –  arched tunnels buzzing with the international pastime of buying and selling. Located in Sultanahmet, the traditional and very touristy area of this sprawling metropolis, the Spice Bazaar is a cheaper, but smaller, altermative to the all-encompassing Grand Bazaar.
